About Vermillion: Showcasing dedicated, professional artists, Vermillion offers art, wine, beer, cocktails, and a daily seasonal menu in a unique, comforting setting. Located in the bustling Pike/Pine corridor and part of a new concept of hybrid gallery spaces, we offer the culture and appeal of an art opening every night without the crushing crowds. The space is split nearly equally to separate the two areas into distinct parts to emphasize the best of both worlds.

Where did you get the name “Vermillion”?

Note: It is not “THE Vermillion”, just “Vermillion”. When we first opened we were primarily a wine bar combined with an art gallery. The word Vermillion seemed to bridge the two together – where wine is often red and the pigment is used for paint.

From Wikipedia: Vermilion is an opaque red pigment prepared from the mineral cinnabar, as well as the name of the resulting color. The pigment has been in use around the world for many thousands of years. Most naturally produced vermilion comes from cinnabar

When did Vermillion open?

Vermillion opened first as a gallery only in September of 2007. The bar was finished in June of 2008.

What was Vermillion before it was a gallery/bar?

It was the Chicken Soup Brigade Thriftstore until 2005. Before that it was a denim jeans exporter, an auto showroom and repair shop and a wine cellar.
