The next installment of the Rain City Advice Hour is right around the corner and this month we will be discussing concepts and experiences of home as artists with two amazing local creators.
NYC born Roberto Carlos Ascalon is an award-wining poet who has taught across Seattle since 2003 and currently serves as the Poet Planner with Seattle 4Culture. His residencies have led to exhibitions at the Frye, SAM, and The Museum of History and Industry and earned him a trip to the White House where he had the honor of shaking hands with the President. He is a Kundiman and Jack Straw fellow, a two-time Seattle Slam Team member and the winner of the 2013 Rattle Poetry Prize. In his spare time he founds non-profits, builds tiny houses and makes delicious food. He lives in an old school building with a beautiful girl, a blackboard and a cat.
Basil Shadid loves adventures and challenges. Four recent projects include the locally produced feature films “Heart Breaks Open” and “R/Evolve”, a daily one-hour live episodic series that provided the official voice of the 2014 Sundance Film Festival, and a music video for the spoken word / hip hop duo Climbing PoeTree. Three recent adventures include skydiving from 18,000 feet, swimming in Lake Washington in 42°(F) water, and an attempt to go completely paperless.
