July 2024: John Behr “The Circumference of a Square”

John Behr
"The Circumference of a Square: A Mathematical Malapropism"

Opening Thursday, July 11, 2024. 5-9pm
Show runs through August 3, 2024

You may recognize John as the guy who sits at the end of the bar and draws daily. We showed his work during Covid when the gallery was abbreviated to being just visible through the window.

Artist Statement:
What is meaning? How does it work?
Is it's only function to convey information or is there more to it? How does meaning relate to art? How does it work as we experience it in life? We understand we often perceive something to be meaningful though it comes without informational content.

I wrestle with questions and ideas while I make my works. However, I don't intend to convey or convince the viewer of anything in particular.

My intention is to create a visual space that the audience can view as they will. I hope to free the viewer from any implied pressure to figure out each piece and to allow them to simply enjoy the act of looking.
