ROYA FALAHI/WENDY RED STAR ARTWORK OPENING THURSDAY, July 9, 2015 6-9 pm (Show runs through 8/8/15)

| June 17, 2015

In their two person show, “Roya Falahi/Wendy Red Star: Artwork,” the artists have made collaborative pieces as well as individual artworks. The pieces in the show are inspired by punk and heavy metal music, while referencing the poppy feel of Andy Warhol as well as the political realm of Jean-Michel Basquiat.  Most specifically referencing Warhol and Basquiat’s 70s boxing themed poster.

Falahi and Red Star have incorporated boxing into the show; embellishing and changing objects such as boxing gloves and shorts with metal pyramid studs, patches, safety pins, and vinyl fringe. This is Roya Falahi and Wendy Red Stars first show together since their UCLA MFA Thesis show in 2006.  The artists are pleased to be collaborating again, and showing at Vermillion Gallery.
